Salutations to the Sun was a durational performance work presented at Federation Square for the Light in Winter Festival, Melbourne, Australia. A choreographic turn on the ritual of the yoga mala, Salutations began under the cover of night, each body moving to its own rhythm in repetition. The duration of the work was an hour and a half, the time it took to complete 108 salutations. Accompanied by traditional musicians on the tabla and Indian flute, the salutations were marked by a ‘counter’ who rang a bell each cycle.
